Nidhika Chauhan, Navneet Kaur, Kamaljit Singh Saini · 2022

Cloud computing is a computational paradigm that provides multiple services over the internet on a pay-per-use basis. Its enticing qualities, such as adaptability, uptime, flexibility, cost reductions, and on-demand service, have encouraged service providers to adopt this technology. To meet customer demand for services, providers were invigorated by the rising popularity of cloud computing to expand the underlying computer infrastructure of the data centers. These large-scale data centers have resulted in a significant rise in energy usage and carbon emissions. The ever-increasing energy consumption of data centers has become a significant concern for both researchers and Cloud service providers. Another concern in the cloud data center is the inefficient allocation of resources that results in excessive energy utilization. Hence this paper highlights the challenges of cloud data centers, resource allocation and its techniques. This paper showcases the relation between the resource allocation and energy utilization of data center. The aim is to study various approaches to overcome these challenges.
