GSM BTS Range Increment-Proof of Concept using SDR
Sriramudu, Kishore Malladi · 2022
2G Technology was introduced in the year 1991,a second-generation cellular communication known as Global System for Mobile Communications(GSM) used for mobile communication. The GSM frequency operates in two bands 890-915MHz & 935-960MHz which are uplink and downlink frequencies. The GSM consists of Basetransreceiver(BTS) station, a Core Network: An authentication Unit Center(AUC) to authenticate the user to the network, a Home Location Register (HLR) to store the details of the subscriber or user inside the network, a Visitor Location Register(VLR) to authenticate the user while roaming, and Mobile Station(MS) nothing but a subscriber or a user. This paper explains the proof of concept for incrementing the range of a BTS to improve the communication range of one cell GSM Base Transceiver System (BTS) up to 50 meters using a power amplifier and attenuator with feasible antennas.
