Tortuosity of the Flow in Porous Media

Irrespective of the type of the solid matrix shaping a porous medium, the interconnected voids appear as highly complex and tortuous paths. Here, we visualize the velocity field of a fluid flowing from left to right through such a tortuous path within a digital model of a thin layer of porous media.
