The direction of arrival (DoA) estimation is an important problem in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) for source localization and tracking. Most of the algorithms in literature required more number of snapshots to get desired performance. But in an energy constrained sensor network, the data communication is to be less. Single snapshot based DOA estimation using comprehensive sensing is proposed in recent literature. But the performance is inconsistent, because of regularization parameters involved in the optimization process. The performance of complex correlation based DOA estimation with a single snapshot is good at a very high signal to noise ratio (SNR). Further, in WSN the first snapshot may be dominated by noise, then these methods will fail to provide desired results. Keeping these problems in mind, Frobinus norm based DOA estimation is proposed here. Even if the first snapshot failed we can extend for a few more snapshots to improve the performance. The simulation results show that the new method outperforms when the number of snapshots are increased to two or three compared to state-of-the art methods in literature.
