Resource Management with Load Balancing Strategies in Fog-IoT Computing Environment: Trends, Challenges and Future directions

Shally Gupta, Nanhay Singh · 2023

Fog computing is an emerging model for performing Internet of Things (IoT) applications. While cloud computing refers to the network of servers and storage, fog computing involves communicating directly with devices at the endpoints. IoT applications, which are increasingly being used to monitor and manage everything from intelligent cars to home appliances, are those that either use fog or cloud computing nodes to respond to resource needs. Load balancing is critical in achieving resource efficiency and avoiding bottlenecks, overloads, or low loads. In this paper, we survey various papers on load balancing to provide a comprehensive overview of the concept. This paper compares categories of algorithms designed to balance the workload among fog nodes. In addition, the article discussed challenges and opportunities in the field and different metrics used to measure load-balancing systems.
