Special section on topological data analysisThis special section covers the recent development of topological data analysis (TDA), from theory to applications.TDA is an approach to data analysis using the technique from the mathematical theory of topology.In recent years TDA has developed rapidly from theory and software to applications.In this special section, three contributed papers are accepted.One focuses on time series data analysis using persistent homology, one of the most important tools in TDA.The other proposes V-Mapper, an extension of a well-known TDA method, Mapper, and applies V-Mapper to single-cell gene expression data.Another discusses spatial dependence detection using a combination of persistent homology and permutation test.These papers will widely expand the horizons of data analysis by TDA.
