Some results on algebraic independence

We describe a theorem of Yu.Nesterenko [Nes1] on algebraic independence of values of Eisenstein series, together with some corollaries.The most impressive of these is the algebraic independence of π, e π and Γ(1/4).Finally we give some indications on new methods of proving algebraic independence.
