Background: Minimal breast asymmetry is a normalfinding in 88% of women, however considerable breast asymmetriesconstitute a major concern for patients. These asymmetriescan be classified according to their etiology into threetypes, primary, secondary and tertiary. In the literature thereis no definite classification that can gather all breast asymmetriesand correlate them with the patients' presentation. Objective: The authors are going to present their experiencein management of breast asymmetry. They are going tosuggest a new classification for this deformity based on thepatients' presentation and the decision making for the managementprotocol respecting the patient's aesthetic goals.Patients and Methods: All women who had breast asymmetrywere reviewed and analyzed. The different etiologicalfactors, the patients' presentation, and the impact of this onthe decision making were studied. Results: Four groups of patients were identified: Firstgroup, included patients having evident asymmetries due todefinite causes. Second group, included patients havingvariable degrees of asymmetry without a definite cause. Thirdgroup, included patients having minimal asymmetries thatwere discovered accidentally during consultation for aestheticbreast surgery. The fourth group included patients havingasymmetries secondary to aesthetic breast surgery. Conclusion: A new comprehensive classification is suggestedfor breast asymmetry. The proposed classification isa reliable method for assessment and treatment of breastasymmetries.
