The Influence of the First Erroneous Information Bit on Other Bits in Successive Cancellation Decoding Algorithm for Polar Codes

Polar codes have received widespread attention because of their excellent performance. In successive cancellation (SC) decoding algorithm, many bit decisions have errors due to error propagation (EP) caused by the first erroneous information bit. In this paper, we describe some rules for the influence of the first erroneous information bit on other bits in successive cancellation decoding algorithm. With these rules, we can know which bits are more error-prone when decoded incorrectly than that when decoded correctly. The effect of channel polarization on the bit-channels is demonstrated more obviously.
