Blockchain-Based Carbon Footprint Tracking for Chips
Jianuo Hao · 2022
The growing global population and increased production have greatly impacted the environment and climate. Efforts are being made to reduce carbon emissions to mitigate this impact. Calculating the carbon footprint of a chip requires the cooperation of all stakeholders in the chip supply chain. A record-keeping system is needed to track the carbon footprint while protecting the privacy of all parties involved. This paper constructs a blockchain-based carbon footprint traceability model for the chip. The traceability system is developed on the Hyperledger fabric platform. Four organizations are configured to correspond to the processing department, the raw material supply department, the transportation department, and the retail department. The go language is used to develop the chain code. The smart contract is designed according to the functional requirements, and the GPS positioning technology is introduced. It realizes the traceability of carbon footprint information and appeals and supervision through the traceability system. The experimental results show that the traceability system can not only ensure the degree of decentralization but also enhance the reliability of data, ensure data security, reduce communication overhead and improve the efficiency of traceability.
