Optimal Maintenance Problem with OSS-Oriented EVM for OSS Project

Hironobu Sone, Yoshinobu Tamura, Shigeru Yamada · 2023

The source code of Open Source Software (OSS) is freely available for use, reuse, fixing, and re-distribution by users. OSS programs are used in various situations, because OSS is useful for many users for cost reduction, standardization, and quick delivery. Many OSS programs are known for their high performance and reliability, even though many OSS programs are free of charge. In this chapter, the authors examine the method of deriving Earned Value Management (EVM) values and propose a method that can derive all EVM values as an OSS-oriented EVM, considering the complexity peculiar to OSS special projects. In addition, they also consider a project progress prediction method that takes into account the complexity peculiar to OSS. Mishra et al. have proposed a metric for computing the effort and contribution of a patch reviewer based on modified file size, patch size and program complexity variables. Sone et al. have proposed a method of EVM assessment for OSS project.
