A Blockchain Based Access Control System for Internet of Things (IoT) Networks

Kyungryong Seo · Journal of Korea Multimedia Society · 2023

The rapid development and widespread application of IoT network systems, network security, in particular access control and data privacy, have become critical. Blockchain technology provides features such as decentralization, high reliability, and tampering prevention, which are advantages in solving the challenges of access control: audit ability, resource consumption, scalability, central authority, and trust. In this paper, we propose an ABAC access control system that can be applied to IoT networks. The proposed system utilizes Ethereum"s smart contract to manage the attributes of entity, store information in a blockchain, and enables flexible access control using it. The proposed model was tested according to the verification scenario and confirmed that it works as intended.
