SDLMI in Community-Based and Virtual Contexts

This chapter describes how the SDLMI Community can support youth and adults with and without disabilities to develop abilities, skills, and attitudes associated with self-determination. Within community contexts and group implementation, youth and adults can set goals focused on diverse areas of community life, such as employment, health and wellness, and building social networks. The SDLMI Community is highly flexible to support diverse goals and aspirations of youth and adults and supports in building a network of support outside of th K-12 education. This chapter highlights examples of how youth and adults engage in the SDLMI in community and virtual contexts to complement school-based SDLMI implementation.
