Snowflake provides unique data storage features such as micro-partitions, clustering, and search optimization that enable fast query execution on tables with large volumes of data. Much of this optimization is taken care of by Snowflake behind the scenes, away from the users. However, as a Snowflake user, you must understand how this optimization works so that you can apply the most efficient query techniques in the right circumstances. This chapter describes how data is stored physically in Snowflake and how and when storage costs are incurred. You also learn how to use the Query Profile tool to view query execution information.
