The Internet of Things (IoT) is a system of interrelated and internet-connected objects that are able to collect and transfer data in a resource constrained environment over a wireless network. The IoT devices are resource constrained in terms of battery life, computational power and storage capacity and most of the time they are deployed in an unmanned environment. Thus, all these conditions make them more prone to vulnerabilities, like those of security, mobility, scalability, interoperability, efficiency. With the increase in the development of IoT-based technologies, it is becoming the fastest growing internetworking paradigm resulting in the rapid increase in the number of connected devices which is estimated to reach 46 billion by the end of 2021 [ 1 ]. Thus, to have coherent and seamless connection between the devices, each device should be able to discover other device or service in the IoT network and be able to access each other in an autonomous manner. This technique is known as Auto Device Discovery in IoT networks. To support this, many Auto Device Discovery techniques have been proposed over the time. In this chapter, first we have analysed the five features that are required in the autonomous Device Discovery techniques which are dynamic scaling, interoperability, mobility, transparency and security. Then we have investigated and analysed the issues and the robustness of the recently proposed Auto Device Discovery schemes in IoT networks. Finally, the future directions towards the improvements have been discussed.
