1 Agile Data Analysis

This chapter briefly describes some of the rapidly changing characteristics of the transportation environment. Market and vehicles together generate the need of teams and organizations to be able to quickly integrate recent data into analyses to achieve positive human-vehicle harmonization outcomes. Five phases of vehicle development are discussed: (1) planning, (2) design and engineering, (3) engineering testing, (4) release monitoring, and (5) maintenance monitoring. Three agile-inspired strategies are advanced for facilitating the required cadence and need for fresh data: (1) build an agile mindset, (2) evaluate the timeliness of data, and (3) build transparency into analyses. Practical examples are provided.
