On-Board Processing for Remotely Sensed Images

This chapter introduces the architectures of on-board data processing and emphasizes its typical topics by categorizing the on-board image data processing into three levels, i.e., low-level, middle-level and high-level on-board image data processing. Especially, this chapter presents the challenges of on-board image data processing, including hardware and software challenges. Finally, this chapter introduces the field-programmable gate array (FPGA), a chip for data processing and the potential applications of FPGA in on-board image processing.
