Philomath: Intelligent Tutoring System for Mathematics

Mathematics is all around us and helps us understand real world problems and to figure out their solutions. Mathematics makes life orderly and prevents chaos. Many students find fractions and algebra to be challenging and perplexing, yet as students get older, they will need to be able to understand these concepts. Fractions are significant since they allow one to express how much of an entire, they would like. Algebra is the foundation of other subjects like geometry, trigonometry, calculus, chemistry, etc. Students find algebra easy in the beginning but as equations get more complicated, they start struggling in solving questions. Thus, it is very important to have a strong foundation in these basic mathematical concepts. There are a few commercial tools available to assist students in learning mathematics but most of them are paid or do not provide sufficient practice. Keeping in mind all these aspects, it was decided to develop an intelligent tutor, which will help users in practicing mathematics. If the user requests it, the tutor will also give hints while working on the tasks, as well as feedback when an attempt is unsuccessful.
