In the previous chapter, strategies were discussed to identify potential indexes for a wide variety of tables. That is often only half of the story, though. Once indexes have been created, performance is expected to improve within a database, leading then to the next bottleneck. Unfortunately, coding practices and selectivity can negatively influence the application of indexes to queries. Sometimes how the database and tables are being accessed will prevent the use of some of the most beneficial indexes available.
