How data-driven learning impacts language gains

Luciana Forti · 2023

This chapter presents and discusses the findings related to the etic component of the study described in Chapter 6 . More specifically, it will illustrate how DDL impacts language gains over time in relation to the development of phraseological competence. It will do so by looking at how phraseological competence develops over time in the context of a DDL and a non-DDL approach to learning collocations. It will then focus on the influence that specific properties of the target collocations exert on competence development in the two conditions. Finally, it will also consider different dimensions of collocation knowledge, to see whether differences are observable through this other perceptive. The findings are interpreted in light of the study design and in relation to the most recent literature on effects-oriented empirical DDL research.
