Machine learning techniques have been used extensively in the medical field and the recent trends have highlighted the significance, positive implications and the need to make thorough use of such techniques. The amount of biological data could be huge and complex, unraveling patterns and useful information from such multimodal data asks for enhanced and efficient machine learning techniques. Artificial Neural Network is one such technique that mimics the human brain and performs classification and pattern recognition in a fairly sophisticated and efficient manner. One of the recent trends in ANN is Deep architectures known as deep learning which can solve complex pattern recognition problems. The application of these machine learning and deep learning techniques has allowed life sciences and the data generated from them, to solve problems that have been substantially complex and intractable in nature. The large and complex datasets from life sciences including; imaging and signaling etc., have been worked on by sophisticated deep learning architectures to give amazing results.
