Polar codes are capacity-achieving linear block forward error correcting codes and are adopted by the next-generation wireless communication systems. Polar codes are based on the 2 x 2 polarization kernel with code length bound to powers of 2. Multi-kernel polar codes are considered to facilitate code lengths other than the powers of 2. This paper proposes an efficient Successive Cancellation (SC) decoder hardware architecture for multi-kernel polar codes for shorter code lengths. The internal functions of the hardware architecture are optimized thereby reducing the area and the hardware complexity.
