A Proposal of Throughput-Based Congestion Control of MPTCP for WebQoE Improvement

This study proposes a new congestion control scheme for Multi-Path TCP to improve the user experience (WebQoE) of Web services. The proposed scheme controls the congestion window for each subflow so that the priority is not on improving the quality of service (QoS) of MPTCP, but on reducing its fluctuation. In this scheme, QoS fluctuations are estimated from throughput fluctuations, and congestion windows are controlled on a subflow-by-subflow basis. The authors have implemented the proposed scheme and conducted QoS evaluation experiments using it. The experimental results show that the proposed scheme suppresses throughput fluctuations, i.e., QoS fluctuations, better than existing MPTCP congestion control schemes in various environments, confirming the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.
