Logging network traffic provides a way of keeping a close eye on the flow of data and being able to analyze it to find or troubleshoot problems as they appear. It can also aid in accessing the information the network users exchange in a way that would not be possible otherwise. Network traffic analysis can be further enhanced by adding modern technologies that allow real-time querying and pattern matching. This paper aims to showcase such a solution, specifically a network traffic logging tool that provides support for real-time network packet transfer to Apache Kafka and ksqIDB, designed to provide a fast and reliable way of storing network packets in Apache Kafka topics.
