Experimental Determination of the Area Coverage of a TETRA Base Station in a Dense Urban Area

This paper presents the determination of the area coverage for a TETRA base station located in the center of a city from Romania. The characterization of the area coverage involved making some measurements to determine the power level for a TETRA radio channel. Low-cost platforms such as Raspberry Pi and Adalm Pluto were used to make these measurements. The system responsible for measuring the power level runs on the Raspberry Pi platform and was built using the GNU Radio software application. The system runs independently and can be configured to be mobile. The built system can be used to make various measurements that can be compared with simulations.
