Voice assistants in neurorehabilitation

Voice assistants, such as Amazon Alexa and Google Home Hub, have potential applications across a spectrum of disability and rehabilitation settings, with the visually impaired and those with marked motor disability particularly likely to reap benefits. We review some of the evidenced and potential applications, as well as our own preliminary experience in an inpatient rehabilitation setting. We conclude that voice assistants are likely to make a significant contribution to the wellbeing of a number of patients with neuropsychological conditions.
