Quantum information processing 3

Helmut Bez, Tony Croft · 2023

We have seen in earlier chapters how digital computations can be emulated quantum mechanically. In this chapter, we cover further aspects of processing, and highlight some significant differences that occur between the digital and quantum cases. We first introduce the concepts of quantum parallelism and quantum swapping both of which have analogs in the digital case. We demonstrate that copying, which is a trivial operation in digital computing, is not generally achievable in the quantum case. The quantum concept of teleportation, which has no analog in digital computing, is also introduced.
