The Multiverse: Infinite Possibility

This chapter describes the Multiverse's eight different realms in technically greater detail and further elaborates on its great potential for the design of advanced Extended Reality (XR) experiences in a comprehensive manner. Apart from conventional Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality, future XR technologies may realize novel, unprecedented types of reality. Thus, X may be rather viewed as a placeholder for future yet unforeseen developments on the digital frontier. The Multiverse may serve as an architecture for the design of such advanced XR experiences. The Multiverse with its six variables delineates eight distinct realms of experience . It encompasses the multiple ways for when experiences happen, where they occur, and what they act on. Designers of experiences may use the so-called experience design canvas as a valuable tool to take full advantage of the six independent Multiverse variables.
