Decentralized Identities
Rishabh Garg · 2022
Decentralized identity is an approach to identity management that allows individuals to store their credentials and personally identifiable information in an application called a wallet. In such a system, passwords are replaced with nonphishable cryptographic keys that validate identities for business activities while securing users' communications. Detailing the models of decentralized identity – federated, user-centered, and self-sovereign – the current chapter explores the likelihood of storing and managing identity credentials and information in an Interplanetary File System or wallet through a blockchain-based solution. Proof of prototype is also presented in the identification system, explaining how to issue, use, and verify identity with a biometric solution, such as facial recognition or iris scan. Features of identity access, such as identity encryption, zero proof-of-knowledge, revocation, etc., the merits and demerits of blockchain-based identity systems have been discussed at length.
