From Robonomics to Tokenomics

Martin Maier · 2023

This chapter focuses on the emerging field of robonomics , which studies the sociotechnical impact of blockchain technologies on social human–robot interaction, behavioral economics, behavioral game theory, and cryptocurrencies for the social integration of robots into human society. Advanced blockchain technologies such as oracles enable the on-chaining of blockchain-external off-chain information stemming from human users. In doing so, they leverage on human intelligence rather than machine learning only. The chapter also investigates the widely studied trust game of behavioral economics in a blockchain context, paying close attention to the importance of developing efficient cooperation and coordination technologies. It then elaborates on the shift from conventional monetary economics to nonmonetary tokenomics enabled by tokenization in different value-based scenarios. In conventional economics, innovation proceeds and propagates by introducing a change in the context of set rules and by observing how such a relatively rigid framework reacts to the change.
