The Internet of Things (IoT) has touched almost every walk of our lives. As IoT applications are inherently information-centric, the Information Centric Network (ICN) paradigm can help improve the network performance of resource-constrained devices with its caching feature. Moreover, it can benefit devices with limited processing power, energy, and memory. However, as most of the research focuses on caching techniques, the placement and selection of caching nodes did not get much attention. Therefore, this article attempts to find the best location for the in-network cache placement in wireless IoT. We propose a Candidate Node selection for Cache Placement (CNCP) scheme to select the optimal node for cache placement. Furthermore, CNCP presents a bloom filter-based fast content search technique for the caching nodes. Our scheme considers the trade-off between cache occupancy, node energy, and content freshness. It also considers node and content popularity, aiming to find a cumulative value based on these parameters. The proposed scheme is compared with existing LCE (Leave Copy Everywhere), LCD (Leave Copy Down), Random caching, and NCP (Near-ICN Cache Placement) schemes. Simulation results show significant improvements in cache-hit ratio and hop ratio.
