Acerca de dos quipus con características numéricas excepcionales
Hugo Pereyra S. · Bulletin de l’Institut français d’études andines · 1996
Two quipus with exceptional numerical characteristics In their thorough description of quipus, Ascher & Ascher observed that in two cases the numbers registered in their strings have a very special relationship to each other. For this to occur, the numbers must have been obtained through the multiplication of whole numbers by fractions or decimals, operations apparently beyond the arithmetic knowledge of the Incas. In the present work the graphic interpretation elaborated by the Aschers is presented and discussed. A new interpretation is then offered, according to which the studied quipus are argued to contain information about angles, and a geometric model is proposed. All numerical information necessary for any further investigation of this subject is included.
