As the developing of the internet, more and more application-layer protocols have been developed for different usages. Although these protocols enable the end devices of internet with many features. The efficiency and security of the transmission process are becoming a more and more big concern. Since the end-to-end encryption in a secured network have been proved to be neither sufficient nor necessary to increase the network security, this paper focuses on the transmission through the internet, whose transmission channel is unreliable, in order to see how the studies on cryptography and algorithm increase the reliability and the availability of the internet service. This paper analyzes 3 end to end transmission schemes: BitTorrent protocol, Signal protocol and a smart city frame. This paper mainly focuses on resolving the schemes into basic encryption algorithms and discussing how they work together to form into a protocol. Additionally, some important issues related to performance are also discussed. This paper also provides a comprehensive explanation on calculation process of X3DH algorithm through mathematical methods, which will be great references for the further studies.
