A denial-of-service (DoS) attack is a cyber-attack in which a malicious actor aims to render a computer or other devices unavailable to its intended users by interrupting the device’s normal functioning. This is accomplished by over- whelming or flooding a targeted machine with requests until normal traffic is unable to be processed, resulting in denial-of-service to additional users. A Denial of Service (DoS) attack is characterized by using a single computer to launch the attack. In this paper, this attack is demonstrated, by first simulating a service in a container environment in which a user wishes to gather some information. Then the number of requests for the service is increased beyond a set threshold to simulate the DoS attack. An algorithm is defined to counteract this threat by migrating the service to another container, increasing the threshold, and restarting the service.
