The mono imaging system works by capturing a single image which contains an object of known dimensions within the image and calculating distance by taking the reference of the known object. The aim of this research work is to develop a system for horizontal distance calculation using a monocular camera imaging. The image processing in combination with Python and OpenCV is used to estimate depth in images and using it for real world applications. The system development for this work includes both software development and hardware development that is presented in the paper. We have used monocular cameras to find the three-dimensional depth of images being captured and use it on video processing for creating real time depth maps of the environment. The goal of the system is to compare distance of an object from a single camera and a LIDAR to get the difference between both in the range of +/- 5 centimeters.
