A Comprehensive Study and Modern Take on Intel 8086 like Modular Trainer Board System

Chip manufacturers design microprocessors to handle complex algorithms while still being in a very compact package. The introduction of microprocessors replaced the traditionally used bulky analog circuits while simultaneously providing scopes for further up-gradation in the algorithm without changing anything. Hence, for a student from an Electrical or Electronics background, it is essential to know about a microprocessor's working principles. Although commercially available microprocessor trainer boards provide some insight, they do not offer extended tests and diversity. Our paper represents a device, which replicates a training module for the microprocessor lab of undergraduate students of EEE. It can operate with the same code structure and logic as the Intel 8086, with an interactive interface to make the learning process a bit easier. Being a modular device, it offers compatibility with a comprehensive series of extension boards to be plugged in and ready to operate. This opens ample possibilities for creative projects involving the implementation of a microprocessor.
