ARP Spoof Detection in Fat Tree Topology Using Software Defined Networking

Shravani Joshi, Rajendrakumar A. Patil · 2022

Software defined Networks is a leading architecture of a network that splits the network in two separate planes namely, Controlled Plane and Data Plane. This feature of SDN makes the network more dynamic, easy to control, monitor, adaptable for high bandwidth, manageable with the help of SDN controllers. While dealing with this architecture, Network security is one of the emerging aspects which needs to be considered. In order to make the SDN network system secure, it is necessary to consider, detect, mitigate the network attacks. In this paper we will consider the Address Resolution Protocol, ARP spoofing as a prominent attack on the network. POX is the SDN controller used to build the fat tree topology. ARP spoofed packets are detected on this network topology using SDN and traffic is monitored using Network monitoring tool named, Wireshark.
