In the cyber world, zero day means it is a defect that is previously unknown to vendors or developers but already known by hackers and is being exploited by them. Because these defects are unknown to developers there is high risk and impact when the attack happens. With all these problems, there are only a few surveys that researchers could look into. Case Studies help researchers to understand current developments in detection and prevention techniques for zero day attacks. With the understanding of current developments, the researchers could be able to create new solutions. This paper briefly covers zero day attacks, their impact, classification, and available solutions. This paper covers a useful reference by which the researchers could see current technologies available for the detection and prevention of zero day attacks.
