DTN Security Stressors and Strategies

Edward J. Birrane, Sarah Heiner, Ken McKeever · 2022

Securing communications within the Delay-Tolerant Networking architecture includes analyzing the stressing conditions present in challenged networking environments. Since the Bundle Protocol (BPv7) suite is the recommended way to instantiate a DTN architecture, the analyses presented in this chapter capture some of the design constraints imposed on BPv7 and BPSec during their development. This chapter focuses on how DTN constraints stress terrestrial security protocols and some strategies that can be taken to mitigate these stressors.
