A novel virtualization architecture for integrating Application Processor (AP) and Modem Processor (MP) in one chip is proposed. Although virtualization has been widely used to improve utilization of physical resources by configuring virtual environment, it has still some limitations for operating heterogeneous OSs for embedded systems and managing different power modes between them. The proposed virtualization solution resolves these issues by constructing software framework for a low power mode of an entire system and implementing independent power states for each virtual domain which is AP or MP. This paper shows the results of evaluation that the amount of power consumption in the low power mode from virtualization solution for multiple OSs equals to a pre-existing architecture that runs only single OS. These results indicate that this solution suggests a new alternative which overcomes hardware limitations and reduces additional costs from existing architectures.
