Challenges, Progress and Opportunities of Blockchain in Healthcare Data

Nowadays, hospitals are struggling to maintain their patients’ histories. This chapter initially discusses the various strategies followed for storing healthcare data. Thus, the hospital has planned to maintain the patient history in the form of electronic data. But it is very difficult to maintain a patient’s history over a network. Hence, the patients do not prefer to maintain the patient history in the distributed network due to security concerns. Therefore, blockchain technology has evolved to securely maintain the patient’s history in distributed networks. But, the blockchain has some challenges in securely storing the healthcare data in a distributed environment. Therefore, this chapter focuses on the challenges and opportunities of blockchain in healthcare. In addition to that, this chapter also discusses the progress of blockchain technology for storing healthcare data over a network.
