QoE Management of Multimedia Services Using Machine Learning in SDN/NFV 5G Networks

Alcardo Alex Barakabitze, Andrew Hines · 2022

This chapter explains the state-of-the-art approaches to Quality of Experience (QoE) Management using Software-Defined Network and Network Function Virtualization in future networks. It describes a variety of management systems and architectures as well as benchmarking studies that have been carried out. The chapter provides the reader a taste of the concepts and approaches that are being proposed and adopted to deliver QoE in future networks. The end-user's QoE is achieved based on the collected knowledge on the network characteristics, however, without requiring any adaptations overhead or active measurements to the server. MPTCP has been mostly been used to improve the aggregate system throughput and QoE of the video streaming client. The DASH Assisting Network Elements which are aware of network traffic can improve the streaming performance DASH by optimizing the bottleneck network links.
