On the Communication Platform for the Smart Aids to Navigation

In this paper, a smart AtoN (Aids to Navigation) that combines ICT with current AtoN facilities is considered. In order to select the optimal communication method for smart AtoN, technical requirements and services for maritime communication are analyzed, and 3GPP 5G-based maritime communication service requirements are also analyzed. We propose three communication methods: AIS, LTE-Maritime, and NB-IoT as communication systems for smart AtoN by determining the degree of conformity with these requirements.
