As there has been an increase in the number of onboard electronic control units, the automobile industry is shifting towards Ethernet-based in-vehicle network (IVN) systems thanks to the advantages of higher bandwidth and reliability. Our previous work introduced an Ethernet-based network architecture that makes use of the high-availability seamless redundancy (HSR) protocol to provide fault tolerance to IVNs. In this paper, we make use of the well-known Quick Removing traffic reduction technique and propose a network architecture that reduces the unnecessary network traffic generated by the conventional HSR protocol for seamless redundancy. Simulation results show that the proposed architecture is more traffic-efficient, indicated by the smaller number of network frames.
