Automatic VLAN Control Framework for a Small Network

Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) with trunk ports can be utilized to optimize network traffic paths. However, it has a limitation in that it is based on the network traffic pattern in the past so it cannot consider the real-time information of the networks. To cope with that, we propose a software framework to automatically control VLAN and trunk ports in real time. It can collect network traffic information and allocate VLAN policy to the trunk ports. We also implement a prototype of the proposed software framework. We assume two scenarios where a terminal is designated as an important user. We show that the proposed software framework can control the VLAN settings to optimize the network traffic paths.
