The advent of augmented reality (AR) systems has radically altered computing devices and current technological trends. Following this revolution, there is still a big issue of proper authentication with these systems. Authentication is the primary defense when it comes to secured and authorized access to a system. Currently, authentication in AR systems is being done via smartphones or personal laptops and sometimes neglected also. In this study, we understand the issues with several authentication protocols which are being currently used by the AR systems and other proposed mechanisms. We have compared different protocols in detail and categorized the issues based on their security against attacks and cryptography/algorithm used. This chapter also highlights integration of AR with cyber-physical systems for prototyping purposes and aims to provide a better understanding of the existing protocols to develop or update existing protocols in future which are secured and difficult to compromise.
