THE CELL CYCLE: A REVIEW OF REGULATION, DEREGULATION AND THERAPEUTIC TARGETS IN CANCER

International Research Journal of Modernization in Engineering Technology and Science · 2022

A large number of regulatory proteins are involved in the cell cycle, which is a complicated mechanism that guides the cell through a predetermined series of activities that ends in mitosis and the division of two daughter cells. The cyclin-dependent kinases (cdks), which interact with the cyclin proteins, are essential to this process. These proteins, along with others like p53, p21, p16, and cdc25, regulate how the cell progresses through the many phases of the cell cycle.pRb and E2F are two downstream targets of cyclin-cdk complexes. Many viral agents, most notably polyomaviruses, papillomaviruses, and adenoviruses, can change the cell cycle to their benefit.Neoplasia frequently exhibits dysregulation of the cell cycle as a result of changes to either oncogenes, which directly or indirectly affect the cell cycle.
