PHP language is a server-side scripting language used not only for web application development but also used as a general-purpose programming language. PHP OOP is a programming language principle added to PHP version 5 that helps build complex, reusable web applications. This chapter explains some important topics of the OOP in PHP with some examples. It also explains the syntax of OOP in PHP 5 and later the key underlying OOP theories as well. The chapter uses somewhat simple examples with some practical, real-world code that will be used. The most common mistake done by the beginners in OOP programmers makes to inappropriately apply OOP theory. OOP programming begins with classes. In PHP, the keyword new must be used to create an instance of a class. PHP provides a set of predefined global arrays containing various useful information.
