In this Overview Chapter we define what is meant by Artificial Intelligence (AI) and how any analysis must be linked to Intellectual Property, Cyber Risk and Robotics to understand this new digital age technology. This is done by expert contributors through the explanation of the historical beginnings of AI, Intellectual Property Rights, the physical concept of digital information, Robotic Process Automation, the future of working, climate change, and the potential for economic and moral crisis. The underlying question addressed is whether a robot could ever be granted a patent and be considered a living system.
