This chapter summarises different experiments focused on aligning the higher-order statistics measurement strategies for the most suitable disturbance detection in future networks. The measurements were taken in the Electronic Laboratory of the University of Cadiz. The chapter introduces events detection, such as sags, fundamental frequency changes and harmonics. In future networks, changes are expected in voltage sags at most locations in the grid due to faults at the power transmission level. In addition, weather-related faults can increase the level of sags. According to the IEEE Recommended Practices for Monitoring Electric Power Quality, different phenomena of power systems exhibit typical characteristics. Some of them are detected through the root-mean-square method. Instantaneous frequency deviations are another case of steady-state changes under symmetric and sinusoidal power supply conditions. Some techniques such as Lissajous figures or the Bowditch curves have been proposed to compare two signals with different frequencies in 2D graphs.
